Review: The R Word

The R Word - MIchael Forcier

I received this book to give an honest review.

This book is not for the faint of heart, there is rape, killing and kidnapping within this story.

Not only did the cover and title pull me in but so did the blurb. I wanted to know where this book was going to go and let me say I was not expecting it to go the route it did. At times I had wet eyes with what Zachary had to endure at the hands of his kidnappers.  Zachary is a gay man who has guilt over his brother Jeffery dying, we kind of get a sense of what happened but don't fully get told until towards the end.

Zachary is kidnapped and locked in a cage in the basement with other guys and while he is locked up he learns that he has no say with what happens to him and he has hope he will soon go home, along with the others. He befriends Matthew who as time goes on we learn a bit about but can't help but feel for him when the ending comes.

Zachary is determined to get out of course and with the of Derrick the boy who is upstairs who reminds him of his brother will it happen? Matthew doesn't believe it will.

I felt this was a story of redemption for Zachary in the form of horror as his life will no longer be the same after this but his heart should no longer have guilt once everything comes to light.

I felt the story was raw and I could connect with Zachary, the author did a great job with it all
