Fallen Over Book Reviews

Just a mom who finds reading and reviewing to be enjoyable between housework, and raising my two minions. I enjoy pretty much everything I can get my hands on except bio's and historical. My main go to books are horror, dystopian, murder and the paranormal.

#PBwkendread: In Case You Missed It

So I was looking around at the book fair at my children's school and saw this book. I grabbed it, read the back and then put down. Went onto something else but then put that book down as well, then came back to this one. What pulled me to want to own this book and read it was at the top it says "Everyone has secrets-until they go viral." That made me think this has to be a good book, because how many of us have secrets that we want no one to know? What happens to this girl when her secrets go viral and how damaging will it be? So this is my weekend read!!

Everyone has secrets—until they go viral. Sammy Wallach has epic plans for the end of junior year: Sneak out to the city to see her favorite band. Get crush-worthy Jamie Moss to ask her to prom. Rock all exams (APs and driver’s). With a few white lies, some killer flirting, and tons of practice, Sammy’s got things covered. That is, until the international bank her dad works for is attacked by hacktivists who manage to steal everything in the Wallach family’s private cloud, including Sammy’s entire digital life. Literally the whole world has access to her emails, texts, photos, and, worst of all, journal. Life. Is. Over. Now Sammy’s best friends are furious about things she wrote, Jamie thinks she’s desperate, and she can barely show her face at school. Plus, her parents know all the rules she broke. But Sammy’s not the only one with secrets—her family has a few of its own that could change everything. And while the truth might set you free, no one said it was going to be painless. Or in Sammy’s case, private.

Review: Onyx Webb: Book Seven: Episodes 19, 20 & 21

Onyx Webb: Book Seven: Episodes 19, 20 & 21 - Andrea Waltz, Richard Fenton

I received this book to give an honest review.
How can a series just keep getting better and better, I have no clue! This is an amazing series that just keeps pulling you into the web that has become joined by the characters. It is amazing how we have gone from the past to the present and the characters are entwine in some way or another. We have characters who have never believed in ghosts before become believers and will try to find the answers the ghost want. We will get a glimpse at Juniper who will hopefully give her brother the peace that he is needing. Even Declan's past will come to him and he will find that he can not hide away forever with things that are not his.

It is hard to write a review without giving anything away, because it is easy to do. If you like ghosts, murder, mystery all wrapped up into one then you really need to check out this series. It is one that will pull you in and not let you go.

#PBwkendread Review: The Other Side

The Other Side of Truth - Beverley Naidoo

So I wanted to read something outside of my normal reading genre. I looked around the library and saw this book kind of skimmed the blurb and grabbed it. It was not as in depth as I assumed it would have been. It just didn't pull to me like I wanted, but it was a decent read something that I am glad I got to read. It broke my heart to see how Sade was bullied in school. We are following Sade and her young brother as they are smuggled into London to escape what has happened to their family. We see how they are trying to adapt to their new life while worrying about their dad and if he is ever going to come to them.

I think this book is good for the kids maybe 6th on up as it isn't graphic in any way and it makes you think about what others are going through in other parts of the world with wars.

One quote I really liked was "Truth keeps the hand cleaner than soap." I feel like this quote is something that really speaks and something that people should think about.

ARC Review: Sink: Underworld Ascending

Sink: Underworld Ascending - Perrin Briar

I received this ARC to give an honest review.

This is the last book in this series. I can honestly say that it has not being boring at all, plenty of action through out it all.

So we pick up right where we left off from the previous book. The family has gone through another passage and they are hoping it is the way home. Though it seems that what they really found is a place called Crossroads. This Crossroads leads to other passages and one in particular called Hell's Gate. It seems this could be the way home but will the family be able to pass through? Also people from their past will play a huge part which will come in handy when trying to stop the Cursed Ones from doing whatever they have planned.

I am sad this series is coming to an end as I wanted more worlds but it was a good series. The characters were well developed and even when faced with death they still survived and overcame it all. I do wonder how you would feel after having such amazing adventures then learning how to go back to your normal life.

Though one thing I would like to know is how long were they underground? When I finished the book they made it seemed like it was just not very long.

Review: Night Shift (Midnight, Texas #3)

Night Shift - Charlaine Harris

When I saw my library had this book I grabbed it pretty quickly.

I have read the other two books so I knew I had to read the next book as soon as I was able too.

So I loved the story line but I felt the way that some things were left opened that there could possibly be another book, even if this is only meant to be a trilogy.  I love Midnight, Texas and its characters. In this story it seems that something evil is lurking below Midnight and it is causing deaths, but what is it exactly? How can the residents of Midnight stop whatever it is? On top of trying to get answers for whatever is happening at the crossroads it seems that Olivia's past will come into play and we get to get a bit of insight into her. It is not really pretty, but I can see why she is the way she is.

It seems that a virgin will be the one to stop this creature but the way it needs to be done I felt bad because it had to be done in public. I can just see the embarrassment that the character went through and felt what she felt. Though it didn't turn out to be a bad thing just weird.

We really get to see how good of a witch that Fiji truly is, and that she doesn't like to see any of her friends get hurt even though they all do not hang out. While dealing with her feelings for the man she wants but she knows he has no clue how she feels, she also has to deal with her family and this demon that is rising.

I really enjoy how all the main residents of this small town come together and help each other out and they do not judge one another.

The one thing I will say she might want to rethink how she describes people at times. For example Lemuel she mentions that he is as white as bleach. Now I am not sure how bleach is white as I always assumed it was clear.

The only reason I gave this book a four and not a solid five like I thought is just because of the openness of some things that went on within the book. I don't want to get into them because I feel like it would give a lot away,

NetGalley Review: Her Last Tomorrow

Her Last Tomorrow - Adam Croft

I received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.

We go back and forth between Nick and Tasha as the different p.o.v.'s It seems that we learn that Nick and Tasha do not have a good marriage and it shows through out the story.

When Nick is expected to take their daughter Ellie to school and she becomes missing it seems that Nick becomes the main suspect. He doesn't seem to handle being under stress to well and it really starts to show. When he gets the message to kill his wife so he can have his daughter again the question will remain will he even do it? Can he do it?

I did like going back and forth between the two main characters I got to see what each one was feeling or doing at a certain time.

I am not sure about the characters honestly because well Tasha seems very self centered and doesn't really care that her daughter gets up at the crack of dawn, just so she can see her for a few minutes. I am sorry but that is just crazy. It is mentioned to us that her parents were going to come down but yet were told not to because Ellie might be found. What grandparents do not come down I am certain that if one of my children was missing my mom would have been down here in a heart beat.

Nick I want to know what kind of person knows someone who knows a hit man? I mean that is just out there, I am sure it happens but Nick doesn't seem like that shady of a character. Now the dark web that is a good thing to write about as a person who reads a lot of crime books and what not I haven't read a lot of stories that have the dark web mentioned. I could see maybe the author elaborating on this a bit more.

When it came about who the kidnapper was it was someone I was not expecting this person it was well hidden. I could understand the reasoning behind this person not being mentioned in the beginning, but yet I felt that the way it all went down was too fast.

Also why in the heck would Nick wait to go home to call the police?

Overall it was a good story I felt it could use some more character building and backgrounds but I would read another book by this author.

NetGalley Review: The Bone Witch

The Bone Witch - Rin Chupeco

I received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.

First off let me say the cover is AWESOME looking. Love the purple and it just overall stands out.

So I am not too big on fantasy books just because sometimes the worlds that are created either do not appeal too me or they just seem way too far fetch for my liking. When I saw this author's name I wanted to give her a chance on this book because I have read her other work and loved the books she wrote.

The author has an amazing way with describing things in this story from the huas that the asha's wear. You can just see the bright colors and design that is within the descriptions. Another neat thing was the Runes that are drawn in the air. I could literally see them being written and the detail that they were given. Another neat thing was the heart glasses that play a huge part in this world that has been created.

We follow Tea as she has become a bone witch something that is feared among the many villages and villagers. Though it seems that Tea is able to learn at a fast pace which is really neat, we see how she grows over a small time period and how she thinks of others even when putting herself in danger.

Now there is not much fighting and I think that is because Tea is having to learn about the Dark that she has because of who she is. So I am hoping that maybe in the next book we see what Tea can really do. I really liked the twist that came when figuring out who the Faceless is and we get that towards the end of the story, I can honestly say I was not expecting that.

As far as characters go I liked all of them they were special and unique in their own way and really stood out. Though I would have liked to see what had become of Likh who we learn isn't like a lot of other males especially the Deathseekers.

I have to say my favorite character is Polaire her quick and witty responses were awesome.

I can't wait to read the next book when this author has it coming out.

NetGalley Review: Killing Jane

Killing Jane - Stacy Green

I received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.

I have to say I really enjoyed this book. Though seeing how much Erin Prince struggled between the issues with her family name got old I understood the significance of it all.

Erin is trying to just be a good detective but with her name being well known will it help her in this case or hurt?

Her new partner Beckett seems like a pretty good partner even takes her outbursts with a little grain of salt. It seems that someone is killing based off of Jack the Ripper but why? Erin and Beckett need to solve the case before more and more people are murdered in a gruesome way but will they be too late? This does deal with sexual abuse and it seems that for Erin it hits too close to home and I have to wonder if she will ever get the therapy she needs. I can honestly say I was very surprised at the twist of who the killer was because honestly I didn't see it. I liked how it took Erin and Beckett until towards the end to put the pieces together. So there was a scene in the book with Erin's brother Brad, and as I read the passage I wondered why would the author put that in there. Unless it was meant to be a filler, but as we got to the end of the story and then it all made sense of why she did that scene.

I felt the characters were well developed and the plot was well thought out. I can honestly see myself reading more of the Erin Prince series. I just hope her and Beckett ease into their working relationship instead of her always coming across hostile.

One quote in the book had me laughing because I am a parent of two that are in school.

"Although with Abby in fourth grade, Erin had begun to realize being a parent essentially meant going through school all over again."

NetGalley Review: I See You

I See You - Clare Mackintosh

I received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.

Man oh man what did I read? Let me tell you this I was so caught up in this book that when the ending came about I was thinking to myself OH NO SHE DIDN'T GO THERE!!! I loved the ending.

So Zoe is a single mom of two, who is in a relationship with Simon and trying to live day to day.

When she sees her picture in the paper it has her uneasy even though no one wants to really believe it is her. Then it starts getting a bit crazier as Zoe starts seeing others and knows that something else has to be going on, but will she be a victim as well. It seems that someone out there is playing a game with unsuspecting women.

Then in pops up Kelly an officer who is determine to investigate who is putting people in the newspaper. What they end up uncover is something that is HUGE! It just goes too show you that you can never truly trust anyone.

While Kelly is investigating she is also coming to terms with her twin sister's decision to move on with her life. It is like the two things that Kelly is dealing with go hand to hand in some way.

We go back and forth between the different P.O.V.'s of Kelly and Zoe and for me it was not confusing at all.

Can't wait to read more by this author.

Characters! Zoe is kind of plain just trying her best to make it and support her family. Though we see her start to panic and really see just how much she cares for her family when put into a situation. It made it exciting.

Kelly the police officer. I liked her she came into the story just running the show. She didn't back down when not finding answers she kept trying until she got what she needed. I hope we get more books with Kelly in it, because I think we got just a small taste of who she really is and what she can do.

I can't wait to read more by this author. I love how she is able to just pull you in and have you guessing until the end to find out who dun it.

Children's Review: Theft at the Fair

Theft at the Fair and Other Stories (It's a Mystery) - Gita V. Reddy

We received this book to give an honest review.

So K and I have really loved this author's work and especially her mystery books. She adds different mysteries with each chapter so you very well entertained and wondering who has done it.

Too me this is awesome because now K is learning more about different genres in books and that mystery is one of them. He actually asked me why isn't the same detective in each chapter and of course I had no answer for him lol.

Now as much as I love the stories the names at times were very hard to pronounce so I just attempted my best I don't think K noticed but for others it may be a bit of an issue.

I really liked how each mystery was solved and if you listened or read very carefully then you can help solve the mystery as well.

I think the neat thing about it all is that children are the ones solving the crimes that are being committed. It isn't adults or the police it is actually children that is really neat.

I can't wait to see more of what the author is going to write as I know K will enjoy it.

NetGalley Review: Ill Will

Ill Will - Dan Chaon

I received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.

When I read the blurb I really was interested in what this story was going to be about. It seemed to right up my alley. Well that wasn't the case for me I was really totally lost through out the whole book. It seemed too have two different plots trying to come together, not too mention the sentences not being finished. Another thing that bothered me was the jumps between characters and I didn't know who we were dealing with at first, until I read a few pages then it clicked.

What really bothered me is what looked like maybe journal entries??? Not really sure what too call them but they were incomplete sentences that drove me crazy.

I really liked how it seemed that this story deals with memories and how being young you can have your memories altered which seemed to be the case with Dustin. Though we slowly learn this throughout the story.

It seems that Dustin's adopted brother Rusty likes the dark side of things so when their parents along with two others are murdered. Rusty seems to have the murders pinned on him, though is he truly innocent? It seems that Rusty has a few things to deal with when he gets out. Now while Dustin is dealing with his brother, he is dealing with things going on in his personal life and trying to solve murders. It seems that Dustin isn't running on all cylinders.

The twist about the murders doesn't come into play until well towards the end and at the time I kept wondering if the murder was Dustin's alter ego or maybe even a figment of his imagination. I wasn't really sure as I was just not able too keep up.

The book has possible potential maybe a clearer plot line or if the author is going to bring two plots together do it in a way that you are left with no questions.

As far as characters go I felt they were just one dimensional I couldn't connect or relate in any way.

Review: Zombie Girl

Eve Brenner: Zombie Girl (The Zombie Girl Saga Book 1) - A. Giacomi

I received this book to give an honest review.

If you like zombies then I think you will like this book. I have always been a huge zombie fan, the more blood and gore the better.

Though with this one not too much gore but it is there. So we are introduced to Eve who is a college student and is in Egypt with some classmates and professor. When she enters into a forbidden place that is when things start to go down hill. She becomes the undead. Though we slowly get answers to why the professor was in that certain place where things happen.

Eve is good at keeping a secret especially one like this but yet when her friends find out they are there to help her in anyway. Those are true friends. Eve tries to curb the hunger but that might not work, especially when we get to the ending! Can you say CLIFFHANGER!!!

Now while dealing with Eve and trying to keep her secret under wraps she starts a dilemma that will cause a whole lot of deaths. Though it seems that our government friends seem to know about everything. So will Eve be safe? Or will they use her as a weapon?

Her best friend Cameron has his own things going on and will find himself in the crosshairs of a zombie who will stop at nothing to get him. Alex is there too back her friends up and goes in fighting when she can.

I am not sure how much more I can write on the review because I feel like I will give away a lot of things. Just pick this book up and give it a try. There is plenty of action, a bit of crushing going on, along with an awesome friendship.

#PBwkendread Review: Stone Rider

Stone Rider - David Hofmeyr

Man I really liked the plot of this book. Motorcycle racing just to get a ticket to live in the sky? Hmm sounds like it has to be a least a bit intriguing right? Well it was for me.

We follow Adam Stone as he is going to race and hopefully win it so he can live in the sky with the Sky people. Though that would mean leaving Frank his brother behind. Can he even do that?

The only thing that cripples Adam is this compassion for his fellow men and this can either help him or hurt him.

While getting ready to race in this crazy race called Blackwater Trail he meets someone named Kane who is very mysterious. Everything doesn't come together until towards the end and then it is like oh wow this is going to make a great series. I loved how Kane was mysterious but it was all for a reason.

Now Adam he is a very good and well developed character who doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Though we see what happens when he is pushed beyond his limits.

I thought another neat thing in the story was how the use of slingshots was use, and they are very deadly.

There is so much I want to say about this book but I feel like I would give so much away.

Just the way this book came about I will find myself getting the next book.

If you like action and adventure pick it up.

Children's Review: Super-Duper Monty

Super-Duper Monty (Picture Book for Ages 3-7) (Volume 3) - Gita V. Reddy

We received this book to give an honest review.

A really enjoyed this book I think because the pictures were so bright and captured her attention.

Monty is a cute little frog who one day finds himself far from his pond. When he is captured by a group of boys they learn that maybe they shouldn't keep him but let him go. They learn that you should treat animals with kindness. Overall a very cute story.

A was sad when she saw Monty was captured and I had to explain that we have to continue the story too see what happens next. Which as we continued she started to understand and was feeling happy.

Review: When Darkness Falls

When Darkness Falls: The First Vampire Redemption Story by Ellen Chauvet (2016-03-16) - Ellen Chauvet

I received this book to give an honest review.

So the book was okay nothing that left me going OMG!!
Lexie as a character I just didn't really get her too much and her sayings that she would say. I was left going really? I live in the south and never heard that before.
There were some things that threw me for a loop as far as the way Lexie would act but nothing too bad. Sometimes she didn't seem like a young adult more like a teenager in some scenes.
So Lexi is a normal girl or so she thinks until her best friend is murdered. This changes her whole world because know she has learned that she is a vampire executioner. We see how she goes back and forth for a while between wanting to do it and then not so sure.
While learning that she is a vampire executioner she fights her feelings for Etienne because a vampire and an executioner can't be together right?
While learning the history of all this she is going to have to prepare to fight and evil vampire couple who has no problem turning and killing humans.
There is a bit of a twist within the story along with some backstabbing so it was interesting to see where it was all going to go and will love conquer the dark.

So somethings that bothered me. Lexie has been working out before she learned her background. Though she acts surprised when she finds out about hitting someone in the nose a certain way will kill them. Uhh you didn't learn this in your workout that you have been doing?
Etienne has been around for years and years so he is pretty strong. I would like to know then why if he drinks human blood one time he automatically goes to the dark side? I mean I liked how that came about but I wished there was more explanation.
If you like vampires stories with some action and a few sex scenes then I say hey pick it up.

Children's Review: The Adventures of Zoe Flynn and Alex Everhart: The Disappearing River

The Adventures of Zoe Flynn and Alex Everhart: The Disappearing River - MakeThinkers., Gail Mittan, David Mittan

We received this book to give an honest review.

I was worried K wouldn't like this book just because it is out of the normal for him. We read about a chapter a night as the adventures are pretty long. K really enjoyed the solving the riddles. I could see him actually putting some thought into them which was really nice to see. Not only do you get riddles to solve but also questions that go with the riddles. So you have to think about things.

We have Zoe and Alex who are best friends and seem to love adventures. When they learn of the sprites and the dilemma they are in with the disappearing river they decide to help them out.

I found this to be a book that the older children would probably like especially if they enjoy riddles and a sense of adventure.

There is no pictures within the book but you can use your imagination.
